The exhibition explores the density of Motta’s artistic research, characterized by relentless rigor in dealing with the archive and interrogating its violence, silencing, and desires. Motta’s work attacks the imposition of Eurocentric epistemologies, from the conquest and colonial period in America to its propagation in the present, taking into account the legacy of religion as a perpetrating and disruptive vehicle of coloniality.

Motta’s artistic career began when he was very young, in the late 1990s, shortly before he emigrated and settled in New York. The exhibition pays special attention to the artist’s engagement with political histories and social movements – and, more specifically, with the politics of sexuality and gender, as well as with the so-called HIV/AIDS crisis – and its contemporary implications for the fragility of bodies. The notion of the collective body and the artist’s attention to the politics of care are fundamental to representation, both individually or self-representatively and in the various forms of collaboration that the artist has stipulated in his projects over the years.

Motta’s works propose alternative narratives to the hegemonic narratives of history, religion and democracy. His work and artistic collaborations materialize the potential for social rectification through the rewriting of history and erode the official narratives of colonial history, military dictatorships and neo-fascism and its violence, in an always blasphemous, corporeal and political pilgrimage.

[109],"event_type_2":[
post-7283","ajde_events","type-ajde_events","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","event_location-macba","event_organizer-macba","event_type-cultura
["GET
